Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in the University of Michigan Sparrow/MSU Family Medicine Residency Program! Our name reflects our passion for collaboration and the breadth of experiences trainees have in our program!  For over fifty years we have been training diverse dedicated family physicians to serve both local and national communities.  Residents receive a solid foundation of experience in full spectrum family medicine and have the opportunity to use ample elective time to create an experience that matches their future career goals.

Each of our offices are Patient Centered Medical Home certified and serve as the hub for learning and experience.  Our ambulatory sites provide opportunities to work in an inter-professional team setting with behavioral health, care management and pharmacy support integrated into daily care.  Residents receive training in a wide range of ambulatory procedures, opioid use disorder treatment, comprehensive mental health care, lactation medicine, preventive care and chronic disease management.

Outside of our weekly didactic sessions, residents have learning experiences in half day procedure workshops, a longitudinal communication and behavioral health curriculum (Senior Seminar Series), and with other residents across the state in the monthly Statewide Campus Series hosted by MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine. Residents have opportunities to serve the community by participating in our Mobile Health Clinic outreach.

For residents who desire to focus their learning on obstetrics, we have an Obstetrics Track that offers extra experience to ensure competence in maternity care upon graduation.  Additionally, for our osteopathic residents, we have a fully structured curriculum to ensure competence in the tenets of osteopathy.

Our location in mid-Michigan and our affiliation with Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine and College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the University of Michigan bring numerous opportunities for learning and growth in the field of family medicine.

Please look at our site, come visit us, or reach out with any questions.  We really are a place where you can learn how to do family medicine while also being part of a supportive family environment.
